Full Vehicle Maintenance

Maintenance for both passenger vehicles and semi trucks is important to keep up so that problems don't build up and compound into a big expensive repair debacle.  As drivers we want to stay out on the the road and put off little indications we have that something is not working as smoothly as possible.  As inconvenient as it can be, we need to take care of the little hitches so that they don't effect other connected mechanisms-- because this is what will happen.

Oil Changes

Some maintenance experts, including some carmakers, say that the oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. Others of equal reliability say that a change at 5,000 miles, 7,500 miles or even 15,000 miles is adequate. In reality, they are all very mistaken. Measuring the amount of wear on an engine based only on the miles traveled by the car’s wheels is highly speculative. Strangely, automobiles and light trucks are uniquely vehicles that use this method. Everything else including boats, airplanes, and heavy equipment, and even lawnmowers, measure use in hours. Perhaps the manufacturers of these vehicles know something that has leaked out of the auto industry! The generic number of hours between oil changes ranges from 100 to 150 hours. However, regardless of hours, never exceed the allowable time or mileage limits stated in the owner’s manual. Even though it’s a terrible way to gauge use, it is even sol the vehicle manufacturer’s accepted standard and you don’t want to compromise any warranties.

Brakes

Brakes are one of those things that if you don't keep them maintained, it can end up costing you more in the long term. The longer you wait to get your brake pads replaced, the closer you are to your rotors getting scratched up. Once the rotors get scratched up from the metal pad clamps digging into them, we can't in good conscience solely replace your pads as they will get worn out so quickly due to the messed up rotors. At Crown Point Repair, we want our customers to feel comfortable in their vehicle. You can leave the repairs and services to our expert mechanics, but please don't hesitate to ask us questions about why a service is needed or how it occurred. Give us a call at (224) 422-2277, and we will speak with you ASAP.

Batteries

Battery problems can be one of those little things that people don't notice but that have an important effect on other mechanisms in your engine. We had a car come in once looking for a second opinion. They had been diagnosed with a bad ECM or BCM and the console was lit like a Christmas tree, and the previous shop was going to charge them thousand of dollars. Our specialist took one look and saved them thousands of dollars by simply changing their battery. He had guessed that the charge was shorted in the battery and that caused the current to give off skewed signals to the computer. Thus, a great example of how a new battery can do wonders for your vehicle. Our long-lasting batteries and best procedures for preventative maintenance reduce downtime and cost of ownership. We declare ourselves experts on servicing fleets! Let us give you a first hand example of our quality, service and hour our expertise can keep your fleet up and running.

Tune-up

Tune-ups have along with oil changes to be found to be the best way to save money on your vehicle. There are a number of ways that without a tune-up you may be throwing money away. One of the most common examples of this is tire pressure. It might seem like a small thing, but there has been scientific proof that having uneven and low tire pressure can cost you in gas money. Pushing through long periods of time without getting a tune up can be fine if nothing goes wrong, but can also cost you money as gaskets and seals deteriorate and fluid leaks or causes corrosion to metal engine parts. There are over a hundred points of micro-malfunction that we check, areas that if kept in tip-top condition can keep your vehicle running smoothly for years without any major malfunctions.
